D Scuderi out indefinitely for Penguins

Defenseman Rob Scuderi is out indefinitely with a broken ankle, Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said.

Scuderi was blasted by Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson in Saturday's game. He is scheduled to have surgery this week.

The Penguins have lost three of their past four games. Kris Letang returned from injury and should help the blue line absorb Scuderi's loss.

Scuderi, 34, signed a four-year, $13.5 million contract to return to Pittsburgh after four seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. He was averaging 19.4 minutes per game with one assist in the first 11 games of the season.
