Dan Stevens Heads Up X-Men TV Spin-Off, Legion

The upcoming ‘X-Men’ TV spin-off ‘Legion’ has found its leading man.

According to Variety, ‘Downton Abbey’ star Dan Stevens has landed the leading role in the upcoming ‘X-Men’ TV pilot… alongside a couple of other new names.

“FX’s ‘Legion’ pilot has found its leading man in Dan Stevens,” they revealed. “The ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘The Guest’ alum will star alongside Aubrey Plaza and Jean Smart in Noah Hawley’s Marvel project, and previously announced cast member Rachel Keller.”

But who are they playing?

Dan Stevens stars as David – a troubled young man who’s been diagnosed as schizophrenic… but it turns out there may be more to the voices in his head than he realizes.

Based on the Marvel comic book character, ‘Legion’ is one of the more interesting creations from the ‘New Mutants’ series.

The illegitimate son of ‘X-Men’ legend Charles Xavier, the iconic antihero possesses numerous psionic abilities… but his schizophrenia locks these abilities away – each one controlled by a different persona.

It’s unclear quite how this will be handled on screen.

Aubrey Plaza will reportedly play David’s friend, Lenny.

“Despite a life of drugs and alcohol abuse, she knows her life will soon turn around,” they explain, “which gives her the likeable energy of the impossible optimist despite her rough demeanor.”

Jean Smart will play Melanie, “a nurturing, demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods.”

‘Legion’ will be written by Noah Hawley, who also serves as Executive Producer alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron.

“The pilot is co-produced by FX Productions and Marvel TV with FX Prods. handling the physical production.”

‘Legion’ will reportedly begin production in March 2016.
