This Dance-Off Is About More Than Just Skills
Colten Guerra is battling cancer, but his greatest competition this week was on the dance floor.
Challenging his friend Officer Joseph Marte to a dance-off, the two hit the floor of Colten’s hospital room and showed off their breakdancing skills in an encounter that quickly caught the buzz of Facebook.
The 4-year-old is currently battling Stage 4 Neuroblasta, and met Officer Marte back in February when his story caught Marte’s attention.

"It started when I was at home one night and I saw an advertisement for Colten's fundraiser,” the Bay Area police officer tells Ellen’s Good News. "I noticed he was just a young kid going through a hard time but he had a vibrant smile. I started to follow his story on social media, and at one point, I noticed he was getting treatment at UCSF, so I decided to pay him a visit. His whole theme to fight cancer has been to take on a superhero personality, so he’s chosen The Hulk.”
Over the past few months, Officer Marte has visited Colten when he’s been in town, and also helped to support the Guerra family's fundraising. Because of the nature of Colten’s illness, they’ve needed extra funding to cover alternative treatments.

Officer Marte has a 4-year-old daughter, and says that he feels compelled by the fact that no kid should have to go through such a challenge. He can also relate to Colten on a more personal level.
“My wife has been fighting breast cancer; we followed his story and the updates his mom was giving were relevant to my wife’s struggles,” Officer Marte explains. “She drew a lot of inspiration from him.”
This particular occasion was noteworthy because it was the day before Colten’s latest scan, following his last round of chemo.
“I wanted to lift his spirits,” Officer Marte says… and of course, he wanted to dance!
