William Levy has explained how exactly he tore a ligament that nearly kept him from a tie on the leaderboard for the top spot on Monday night's "Dancing with the Stars."

"I was practicing my turns," he told Access Hollywood of the Sunday practice session where he suffered an injury. "I kept working on them by myself and... I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself, which is what happened.

"I slipped [on] the dirt; I slipped and fell on my ankle, my whole weight on my ankle and that's it," William added, while speaking with Access after Monday night's "DWTS."

In addition to explaining how his injury happened, William cleared up the report that he was advised not to dance by a doctor on Monday, after having an MRI.

"He told me that I could dance, but that I had to take care of my ankle," William explained. "I have to really tape it really good so it won't move anywhere...I have to ice it and take care of it, rest it."

The model and actor said he knew it would hurt to hit the dance floor, but he powered through.

"Through my head, I feel pain, but I knew I could do it," he said.

The delightful number, which had judge Carrie Ann Inaba branding him, "the Latin James Bond," heated up the screen and William explained why his Argentine tango, with partner Cheryl Burke, was so hot.

"I'm very passionate in everything I do," he said. "When I first found out we were going to dance tango... I didn't know anything about tango, so I used all I could to dance and [Cheryl's] very passionate too. That's what the tango's all about. If you can be passionate during the dance, I think everything else is going to go with the flow."
