David Archuleta announces plans for Mormon mission

It is amazing to me how critical people are when someone chooses to put aside fame and fortune to do something worthwhile. I guess choosing not to live up to the typical Hollywood standard of self-destruction makes you strange. I applaud his decision and wish him the best.

What a wonderful message to send - that a talented and successful young person is willing to give up fame and money for a time in order to live his faith. How inspiring!
      • jr 5 mths ago
Because he know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a true church, and we are the only group of religions has a desire to give up fame and money, because of the truth.

This really is a sweet, special kid...

He's actually a big star in Asia, and has a huge latin folloiwng even though the cynical American music industry has been kind of ignoring him for a while (for one thing, kids who can actually sing and don't need Autotune are harder to "control") and his label, Jive, was sabotaging many of their artists before melting down and closing shop two months ago..

But I just saw him on PBS' annual Mormon Tabernacle Christmas concert -- PBS' highest rated program all year -- and Archuleta was great.

I'm not sure that this 2-year mission is a good idea. But he wants to do it -- or, rather, has been made to FEEL like he wants to do it (which is my suspicion).

But good luck to the boy.

Nice to hear someone cut the kid some slack.

      • M 5 mths ago

So what was he crying for? Happy or scared? A young guy with all them Mormans--watch out Davey Boy!!
      • Lana C 5 mths ago
The conservative leaders in congress are getting rid of unemployment for 2 million people. They voted down the continuation of the payroll tax. So how is this helping people booting people out into the street and taking away 1,000 a month for the average family?

David Archuleta wave buy to your career .No the Mormons smell money wonder how much tidying does he pays i still like answer why do Mormons have have a church on every corner like a 7 -11
      • loveunitedalways 5 mths ago
He's made a really poor decision by choosing to put his career on hold for some religious missions. He should be putting his energies on reviving his career, which has already fizzled out, instead. He'll be forgotten by the time he's done with his missions.

      Galatians 1:8
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

This isn't unheard of, shocking or newsworthy. As stated at the bottom of the article, this is a typical duty for young men in the Mormon faith. If you see the young men in nice slacks, shirts and ties-usually in pairs-walking around your neighborhood, its a safe bet that they are Mormons who are serving their 2 year mission work.
On a side note, his musical career is barely alive, so perhaps this time of is the best option for him.

For those dissing his decision, put your money where your mouth is. Walk away from what you've got on the chance you *might* make a difference to a stranger.

Shawn Bradley served a mission and then went on to play twelve seasons in the NBA. If you can play at that high of a level physically after taking a break, I think it's safe to say you can sing again later! Go try though Wanderleg!

Awesome!!!! Good for you, David!!!! This takes a lot of courage, especially in the middle of your career. I know the Lord is proud!!!! :)

Yeah for you David. My son said it was the most beautiful and rewarding time of his life. Heavenly Father has blessed you in all ways. Your beautiful voice will be heard and reach people in a more magnificent way. He will be with you all the way.

He can visit me. I'll give him cookies and a puppy.

I'm guessing he follows in Mitt Romney's footsteps and finds himself in Paris. Rough assignment for a missionary.
    • starstar  •  5 mths ago
He just made the best decision in his life. I salute him for being a good example to all young men in serving God above all. He will for sure never regret this.
