David Beckham: “Brooklyn’s Now More Famous Than Me”

Fame, as we all know, is a fickle beast. You might think that being David Beckham would mean that you were able to bask in the universal adoration of millions of fans, seemingly forever.

However, before you know it, some little upstart who’s barely three weeks older than an embryo is out there – stealing your thunder.

And sadly, if you’re David Beckham, that little upstart just happens to be your son.

It’s all got very Shakespearean all of a sudden, hasn’t it?

The former soccer superstar and 10/10 hun claimed this week that it’s not actually David himself who’s the number one Beckham that everyone wants to get a picture with – in fact, he’s often left holding the camera whilst the Under-15’s netball team grabs a snap with Brooklyn instead.

Having a good ol’ natter with the boys and girls at Manchester’s Key 103 FM, Dave said he’s very much not the priority anymore – which we can only assume must be a mega-dent to the old ego:

“We normally get people now coming up and saying, ‘would you mind taking a picture with me?’, and they’re actually talking to Brooklyn rather than myself. And I’m the one that takes the picture!”

But come on now, people – are we really that surprised by this? Brooklyn’s been a bit of a low-key superstar for the past couple of years now – what with shoots for Teen Vogue, starring roles in music videos for The Vamps and even having a very casual 'no big deal’ kick around with Harry Styles all helping to solidify his status as Brand Beckham’s newest torch-bearer.

It was reported this week that the 16-year-old broke things off with Chloe Moretz after becoming infatuated with 'Good For You’ singer Selena Gomez. Speaking to those pot-stirrers at OK! Magazine, a source said: “He was smitten with Selena even while he was dating Chloe, which was one of the reasons they broke up. [Selena] says Brooklyn’s sweet and all, but he’s just too young for her. In a few years time that could change, but for now she only sees him as a friend – and it’s breaking his heart.”

Oh there, there Brooklyn – at least you’re now more famous than your Dad, eh?
