David Muir’s ‘World News Tonight’ Edges Lester Holt’s ‘Nightly News’ in Total Viewers
After extensive coverage of the Iowa caucuses, all three networks have something to brag about.
ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” was the most-watched nightly newscast for the Week of Feb. 1, claiming the top spot among total viewers for the third time in the last six weeks.
“World News Tonight” averaged 9.269 million viewers to narrowly edge NBC’s “Nightly News with Lester Holt,” which averaged 9.225 million viewers. However, “Nightly News” finished first in the key demo, averaging 2.299 million age 25-54 viewers, compared to 2.104 million for “WNT.”

CBS’ “Evening News with Scott Pelley” finished third in both categories, averaging 7.745 million total viewers and 1.873 million in the demo. Despite finishing behind its rivals in viewers, CBS’ newscast saw demo growth, up 3 percent over last year, while “Nightly News” was down 9 percent and “WNT” was down 10 percent.
