David Schwimmer Joins FX's OJ-Themed American Crime Story as Robert Kardashian

David Schwimmer‘s newest friend: OJ Simpson.

The Friends actor is set to play OJ pal-turned-defense attorney Robert Kardashian in FX’s American Crime Story: The People V. OJ Simpson, TVLine has learned.

American Crime Story, from American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, got a straight-to-series order in October — with a 10-episode first season focusing on the murder trial of NFL star Simpson, who was accused and ultimately acquitted of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson.

As we previously reported, Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire) and Emmy-nominated Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) will play O.J. Simpson and prosecutor Marcia Clark, respectively.

The story will be based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson, which is told from the lawyers’ perspective and details the legal maneuvering involved in the famous case.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt) will pen the script and serve as show runners; Murphy — who’ll co-executive produce with AHS‘ Brad Falchuk, among others — will direct the first episode.

Filming is slated to begin in early 2015 in Los Angeles.
