Davis, Abbott report big money in Texas race

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Fort Worth Democrat Wendy Davis says she raised more than $11 million over the past six months in her race for Texas governor. Republican Greg Abbott reports collecting $11.5 million over three months.

Davis reported raising a total of about $12 million, including her Senate account, gubernatorial account and a political action committee formed with Battleground Texas. That group was formed to boost Democratic chances in Texas.

The campaign said it will report raising funds from 71,843 individual contributors. About 85 percent of the contributions were $50 or less.

Abbott, the state attorney general, says he has $27 million in cash on hand.

Texas is the nation's second most populous and largest state, with 20 media markets. The 2014 campaign is expected to cost each about $40 million.
