‘Days Of Our Lives’ Renewed By NBC

I have learned that Days Of Our Lives, which marked its 50th anniversary this season, has been renewed for next season, which will be the long-running daytime drama’s 51st. The pickup, which I hear may include an option for an additional year, keeps NBC in the daytime soap game as Days is the last remaining afternoon drama on its schedule. The network brass had showed public support for the show, from Sony Pictures Television, with both chairman Bob Greenblatt and president Jennifer Salke recently saying they were “happy” with its performance.

Days of Our Lives celebrated its 50th anniversary anniversary in November with a 20-month ratings high, averaging 2.721 million viewers for the week of Nov. 2-6, its largest audience since the week of Feb. 17-21, 2014 (2.836 million) during the network’s coverage of the Sochi Olympics. Days recently topped that during the week of Jan. 4-8 with a big storyline involving Maggie’s decision whether Brady or Eric would receive the heart of her brain-dead son Daniel. It drew 2.914 million viewers, the show’s largest viewership in two years, since January 2014.

In addition to Days Of Our Lives, Sony TV also produces CBS’ daytime drama The Young And The Restless.

UPDATE: NBC confirmed the renewal later Thursday. “NBC is incredibly proud of the legacy of Days of our Lives and we couldn’t be more excited to brings its fans new stories for the 51st season,” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “In a business where having a show remain on the air for two seasons is considered a success, what Days has achieved is extraordinary.”
