Deadpool Is Pansexual Say Director & Ryan Reynolds

‘Deadpool’s loud-mouth star will be pansexual, star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller have revealed. The news is in-keeping with the comics and makes the film pretty historic among superhero movies.

The latest film in 20th Century Fox’s 'X-Men’ universe is already notable for its hard R rating, the first for a superhero movie in quite some time.

Asked by Collider if the film would star a “hypersexualised” version of the Merc with a Mouth, Miller said: “Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.”

Not ambiguity there. “There is some sexuality in this movie for sure,” added Reynolds. “You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, ‘This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?’ But so far so good. Studio hasn’t crushed us with anything.”

Indeed the film’s blood-splattered adult rating is something it will wear proudly. In July Simon Kinberg - who oversees the Fox superhero movies - said: “It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

As mentioned, Deadpool’s omnisexuality is in-keeping with the comics. In answer to a fan question in August, the character’s co-creator Fabian Nicieza explained: ”[His] brain cells are in CONSTANT FLUX. He can be gay one minute, hetero the next, etc. ALL ARE VALID.“

'Deadpool’ stars Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano. It will be connected to the wider 'X-Men’ universe and will, presumably, cross-over at some point in the future.

The film is not far from release, there’s just three months until the fan-favourite hero hits cinemas on 4 February.
