Death toll from Vietnam floods climbs to 100

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Vietnamese officials say flooding has killed 100 people and left two others missing — mostly in southern Vietnam, which is suffering its worst floods in a decade.

A disaster official in central Quang Nam province said Wednesday that recent floods there have killed 17 people, left one missing and forced 25,000 people from their homes. Nguyen Minh Tuan says many villages in the province were isolated by floods and landslides.

The government says five other people drowned in central Vietnam and one more is missing.

Meanwhile, the death toll from seasonal floods in the southern Mekong Delta has hit 78. That area has been hit by floods since late August, but the waters have started to recede in central Vietnam.

Anyone that would say horrible things about the people in Vietnam have clearly not spent any time in Vietnam. The Gov is garbage, true, but the people are for the most part amazing and quite impressive to me. It was a real eye opener to spend months from Sapa in the top to Saigon in the south. Even in the "North" the people loved me and could not have been nicer/sweeter. Most in that country just want peace and a better life and work #$%$ hard to just support their families and live day to day. Most also don't like their gov. but will still get tossed in a Viet jail if they even suggest it, and you can imagine what that is like. Not club Med like here in the US. I feel bad for the people here that are so ignorant that they think they actually have any idea what they are talking about....

THANKS REDSHIFT.....Most of the people there I talked to were born from the late 60's so they don't know much about the Viet Nam war...and also they don't give a #$%$ about it either. All they want is to earn a living....

Ten years of solid war, the USSA dropping more bombs on N. Viet Nam than all of WWII and Korea combined, and they still kicked your #$%$amp;#39;s. I don't think a little flooding is gonna bother them too much.

They have a wall to, except it has 650,000 names listed on it. And thats only the
ones that there was a big enough piece of them remaining that they could count
as a body. I personelly would of killed another 10,000, if they would of let me
stay, but we all had to go home after a year ! So, lets see, at 650,000 plus,
that works out to just about (7) of there for every (1) of our guys lost. I don't
call that winning anything ! Then after we pulled out, the Kamer Rough came
in and mudered another (4) plus (Million) ! Ya, they won alright, a fast trip right
striaght to Hell !!!! Oh well, better (Red) then dead , right ? If there way of life
with out any freedoms is the winning prize, then I'd rather be dead !
People like you, who have never defended (Anything) with your life, should
let things you know very littlw about , to your self !

Or have you ever had a (PCS).They only good #$%$.... is a dead one !!!! Ya, they had some realy nice peoplein Hanoi that treated prisoners with total kindness, by breaking there arms andlegs for information, at the request of the Russians ! Saw it rain for over 40 days straight in the monsoons of 1967. Streams you could step over last week were raging rivers. If you haven't seen it you cannot comprehend the amount of water we are talking about.

Wonder if all these "acacemics" still slamming Vietnam consider the fact that many, many, many more died in Europe than in SE Asia. It's no small wonder America is in trouble.

China should send aid and workers to help with relief in Vietnam, as a gesture of goodwill. Relations may be fraught, but they can always be repaired. I hope China sees this as an opportunity to improve relations!

Sorry to say that some of these comments are just nonsense and bad taste wishing innocent folk of any race or religion death or destruction, especial a country that has not been involved in a war of any kind for over 35 years. Generally peaceful Buddhist that are just getting by with very little money, as a white American male i am proud to say that the sweetest woman i have ever meet is Vietnamese and my wife. Remember all you silly haters we are all on this planet together if the earth dies we all go bye bye...

Years ago, when I was on a government sponsored tour of Viet Nam, it rained hard, real hard. The local creek that you could step across turned into a raging white water rapid overnight. All of the rice paddies were like 2 feet underwater and I mean that includes the dikes around the paddies too. All the wild animals moved from the lowlands to the hills to keep from drowning. We had cobras, wild pigs and all sorts of other critters trying to keep from drowning. It was bad. I know that we lost 2 Americans to all that wild water.

I see that the majority of ID IOTS who posted their "two cents" have NO idea what they are talking about. My God....let go of the past will you. It's been almost 50 yrs since the start of the war. Most of the people there I talked to were born from the late 60's so they don't know much (if any) about the Viet Nam war. They were way too young to know.....and also they don't give a #$%$ about it either. All they want is to earn a living......and fight the corruption from the government. .....so PEOPLE, GROW UP!!!
