Defense of Supervisor Scrivner speaks out at Thursday’s press conference

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Criminal defense attorney H.A. Sala is representing District 2 Supervisor Zack Scrivner, and lashed out at Sheriff Donny Youngblood today at a press conference.

“I wouldn’t be standing up here if we didn’t believe something occurred,” said Youngblood.

About an hour after the declaration was made by Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood, Zack Scrivner’s defense attorney, H.A. Sala, fired back at his own news conference.

A mix of many emotions, families join 10th Annual Victims’ Rights March

“We believe the evidence doesn’t support any kind of a prosecution involving sexual assault,” said Sala. “We firmly believe that cannot be proved without a reasonable doubt.”

Youngblood says one of Scrivner’s children stabbed his father twice with a knife during Tuesday night’s altercation. Sala said it happened because one of the kids was trying to disarm their dad who was threatening to shoot himself.

Scrivner and his wife have four children together. They separated last November and his wife filed for divorce in March.

“He’s absolutely committed to his children. He loves his children and I can tell you this, he’s very distraught they’re going through this,” said Sala.

Scrivner has not been arrested or charged with a crime. Sala believes there shouldn’t be any charges filed.

“I’ll tell you right now, he deserves better,” said Sala. “Doesn’t deserve to be fronted out and these allegations being made in public without a full, thorough and objective investigation.”

Sheriff Youngblood and Defense Attorney Sala do agree on one thing: the investigation is going to take longer because the case will be moved out of Kern County.

The county’s lead prosecutor, District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer is Scrivner’s aunt.
