Deja vu: New report says the iPhone 6s might have a special kind of glass cover next year

Here’s why the iPhone is better than Android

Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus just a couple of months ago, but a new report from Focus Taiwan seems to reveal an interesting deal for future iPhone generations, as detailed by China Economic Weekly. The publication also seems to confirm a recent report that said Foxconn is urgently building a display factory to handle only Apple orders, with special emphasis on the next-gen iPhone models.

According to the publication, Foxconn has signed an agreement with the Zhengzhou city government in Henan Province to build a 133-hectare factory next to an iPhone 6 assembly plant. Interestingly, the new factory will supposedly manufacture sapphire displays for next-generation iPhones.

Even though Apple’s first try at making sapphire displays for the iPhone 6 was a failure, resulting in GTAT’s demise, the iPhone maker is still determined to improve the durability of the iPhone’s display, by using more resistant sapphire glass covers than other alternatives.

At the same time, Apple is said to “cautiously evaluate the adoption of the scratch-resistant screens to ensure that there are sufficient supplies,” so it’s far too early to get excited about sapphire screens for next year’s iPhone 6s models.
