Demi Moore 911 Call: Actress 'Convulsing,' 'Smoked Something'

The newly released 911 call placed from Demi Moore's home on Monday night reveals that the 49-year-old actress was smoking something and was "convulsing," "semi conscious," and "burning up" before help arrived.

The heavily redacted tape reveals mass confusion at Moore's household on Monday night. "Sir, this is an emergency," a female caller says, before giving the dispatcher Moore's Beverly Hills address. She becomes increasingly panicked, saying, "We need an ambulance here as soon as possible, please."

"She smoked something, it's not marijuana, but it's similar to ... it's similar to incense and she seems to be having convulsions of some sort," the woman says, who identifies herself as a "friend" of the actress. She also says that Moore had been taking some "other stuff" recently but didn't know what it was and mentions that Moore has been having "issues."

Another woman tells the dispatcher that Moore is "burning up" and not breathing regularly but is able to squeeze her hand. At the end of the call, a man takes the phone to give the dispatcher directions to Moore's home and says that she's calmed down. "Now she's breathing fine and she's not convulsing," he says.

On Thursday, Moore reportedly returned home from the hospital. Multiple reports have stated that Moore's hospitalization was prompted by a seizure she suffered after inhaling nitrus oxide. Her rep has thus far declined to comment beyond her Tuesday statement that Moore is seeking treatment for stress and exhaustion.

The release of the 911 call is the latest setback for Moore. On Thursday night, her estranged husband Ashton Kutcher returned to L.A. from Brazil, where he had been shooting a fashion campaign. While Moore was being rushed to the hospital after suffering a reported seizure, Kutcher was out partying with Brazilian supermodels.

The difference in how they've handled their breakup couldn't be starker.

"What we see is Ashton moving on in his life. Demi? She's gone down, down, down," clinical psychologist Judy Kuriansky, better known from her radio show as Dr. Judy, told ABCNews.com.

For Kuriansky, the difference is not surprising. "Women are the ones who suffer the most when there is a breakup. Men do suffer too, no question. But on balance, women end up suffering emotionally for longer, especially when there have been affairs," she said.

Kutcher, 33, has thus far remained mum -- including on his Twitter account -- about the plight of his ex. His rep did not respond to ABCNews.com's request for comment.

Instead the images of him in Brazil -- leaving nightclubs late in the night, hanging with gorgeous Brazilian supermodels and "surfing" in the streets during a downpour -- speak louder than any words.

"It's shocking," Huffington Post entertainment columnist Rob Shuter told ABCNews.com. "You don't need to run back, but you certainly don't need to be out drinking and partying. This is just a PR nightmare. At worse, it's heartless."

Since November, when Moore announced she was divorcing Kutcher amid reports of his infidelities, their paths have diverged. During red carpet appearances for the Lifetime movie "Five," which she helped direct, and "Margin Call," a small indie in which she has a juicy role, Moore appeared gaunt. Even she acknowledged the concerns about her weight in a recent interview for Harper's Bazaar, where she revealed having a love-hate relationship with her body as well as a fear of not being worthy of love.

"I would say what scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm really not lovable, that I'm not worthy of being loved. That there's something fundamentally wrong with me," she said.

While she headed to Hawaii for some solo soul-searching after her divorce announcement, Kutcher traipsed through Italy with two friends, including an attractive brunette he claimed was just a friend. Before that, he got cozy on the red carpet with co-star Lea Michele at the New York premiere of "New Year's Eve." And, later, he revealed a new clean-cut look to TV critics, while promoting the new season of "Two and Half Men." (He also played with his wedding ring throughout the news conference.)

Moore, on the other hand, just dropped out of her latest project, "Lovelace," the Linda Lovelace biopic in which she had been cast as Gloria Steinem.

"She's the wronged woman, he's a young guy," Us Weekly senior editor Justin Ravitz told ABCNews.com. "She's having a bit of crisis, not sure where to go from here, she's not at the top of her game, no tons of projects. He replaced Charlie Sheen in one of the most popular scripted shows in an almost seamless transition. He's still young and hot."

Since their breakup, the former couple has collided at least three times at Hollywood parties in December and January, including most recently during the Golden Globes' weekend. "They exchanged pleasantries but it was awkward," Ravitz said. "I wouldn't say they were catching up like old lovers."

In recent weeks, Moore has been seen out partying, including with eldest daughter Rumer Willis, Ravitz said. At Hollywood hot spot Beacher's Madhouse, she was seen dancing on a table surrounded by three guys, a source told Us Weekly.

"She's obviously acting out, dealing with insecurity and depression. She's almost regressing," Ravitz said.

"It requires a lot of self-care after a breakup," said psychiatrist Dr. Reef Karim, director of the Control Center in Beverly Hills. "If you're out partying and doing drugs, you're not taking care of your body that well. And someone who is 30 and partying can get away with it a little better than someone in their late 40s."

Psychologist Kuriansky is concerned Moore could be battling old demons.

"When you start out with major self-esteem issues, it can be very hard to overcome. Some big blow happens and you fall back to ground zero," she said.

But Huff Po's Shuter is optimistic Moore will be back on top. "Demi is Hollywood royalty," he said, adding that Kutcher would be smart to remember that. "In Hollywood, it's all team Demi."

What does the "Not for Human Consumption" Warning Label mean?
      • Kirby Carmichael 3 mths ago
It means the manufacturer can't be tagged with intent to distribute.
      • D T 3 mths ago
That's why it's called "incense" because they label it as something you can burn and make your home smell good. But in all actuality it is used for human consumption. By labeling it that way, it keeps the feds from their doors and makes the manufacturer PRETEND that they are not aware that people are smoking it.

You're risking you're life for Ashton? Really?
Girl, he's having fun while you're acting stupid. He doesn't care so stop trying to get attention.
      Really, get it together.

They are ex's! Obviously they don't love each other and broke up. Why should he really be concerned about in this case? If they were married or in love then yes, he should not do what a single person does. But he is single. Demi stop smoking that synthetic stuff.

Sad that she has to resort to self-abuse to get the attention of someone that clearly doesn't care about her. That "Spice" incense shyt is dangerous. If she has just partook of some of that awesome Cali sticky green bud the only call that she would have needed to make was to Dominos. And from the looks of it she should get the large pan with everything on it.

For sure. People, stop taking these manufactured drugs. They are killing all of you slowly.

I wouldn't dare live or raise my kids in Hollywood. It is such a empty, drug infested wasteland. The richer and more famous people are, the less they understand the true meaning of life. Words like respect and integrity mean nothing to these people. It's funny how these same people are always so quick to lecture the rest of us on how to live and vote.

At 49 she needs to stop behaving like a teeny bopper and stop weeping over an ex almost young enough to be her son. It's pathetic.

I remember that video Ashton made of her dancing on stage with SNOOP. She looked like she was convulsing then. Figured she was either a drinker or smoker of something.

Hollywood Royalty? Who writes this stuff? A falling down drug addict that can't handle anything is Hollywood Royalty? News reporters stated that Demi and Ashton's marriage fell apart because of her drug abuse (mostly prescription narcotics), he didn't care to deal with a junkie anymore and I don't blame him. Why is everyone hating on him? She's the cougar drug addict. Not real attractive.

WTYF???? Hey, Demi, you were always worth more than that baby, why do this to yourself over someone who most people would kick out of bed in the morning???? Stop smoking #$%$ you shouldn't be, be a mom to your kids, eat something because you look like hell, and find someone with a brain and who is at your level of conciousness, not a brat from the daycare center!!!! I wish you well, but do it sober......

Sounds like she had a bad reaction to that synthetic marijuana, Spice. That's what happens when you get a bad batch or your system can't take it. It's not safe like real Marijuana.
      • Poster 3 mths ago
Real marijuana isn't guaranteed safe. There are people who have bad reactions, even if they have smoked it before and been OK. There is no 100% guaranteed safe drug, that includes what is fully legal and accepted. Even coffee can cause caffeine induced psychosis if enough is consumed.
