NAUGATUCK, Conn. (AP) — Senate Democrats are pouring $299,756 into congressman Chris Murphy's campaign in Connecticut against former pro wrestling executive Linda McMahon.
The cash infusion is the latest sign that Democrats are concerned about the Republican candidate's momentum in the liberal-leaning state where polls show a tight race. Just two weeks ago, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee pumped $320,000 into the race to pay for ads attacking McMahon.
McMahon enjoys a strong money advantage over Murphy and is using it to play up her life as a mother and grandmother. She spent $50 million of her own money on a failed Senate run in 2010. She has lent or given nearly $16 million to her 2012 campaign.
Murphy, meanwhile, has raised less than $6 million.
