Dr. Atagi’s aesthetic instincts and training led her to use sizers as part of an integrated process for patients wishing to augment their breasts. Dr. Atagi states, “The program includes a consultation, an opportunity to try the sizers on for symmetry, a collaborative discussion regarding personal preferences and review of photographs brought in by the patient to put us on visually on the same page.” Dr. Atagi states that her patients are very pleased with this approach and adds that her practice is statistically better than the national average as far the need for reoperation for size change. “In the operating room we use actual implant sizers in the breast pocket where the implant will be positioned. While the patient is asleep, we sit the patient up to confirm breast symmetry. This is one way we check for size, contour and symmetry overall. We can try different volumes, implant projections and different combination as needed.” Sitting the patient up intraoperatively is critical in evaluating and achieving the desired final result. Dr. Atagi’s experience in design and work as a biomedical engineer makes her uniquely desirable to many potential patients. “My patients tell me they like that!”

    Dr. Atagi sometimes uses a different implant size in each breast to achieve a symmetrical appearance in her patients. “The sizers are great because they help us determine each individual’s proportion before placing the permanent implants. Not every woman’s shape is the same, no breasts are symmetrical and not every B, C or D cup is the same.” Dr. Atagi encourages patients to bring “I like” photos to review together and for comparative purposes in the operating room.
