A week after losing the tip of his left middle finger during a loss to the New Orleans Saints, Arizona safety Rashad Johnson expects to play on Sunday when the Cardinals face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"Yes, in my gut, I think I'll play," Johnson told ESPN on Thursday. "But it will really come down to getting cleared by the doctors. They're going to want to make sure everything is OK."
Johnson took part in Thursday's practice without pads and raised his "heartbeat up to see how the finger responded."
Johnson plans to practice with pads on Friday to see if "the finger can do all the things you need to do in a football game.
During the first half of Sunday's game against the Saints, Johnson lost the tip of his middle finger while covering a punt. When he pulled his hand out of his glove, the tip remained inside.
Doctors shaved the bone and covered the tip with skin.
