Despite Strong Feelings, Casey Anthony Jurors Stuck to Facts

COMMENTARY | The Casey Anthony verdict seemed to make everyone mad and frustrated. In fact, the jurors seemed to be the only ones who thought Anthony wasn't guilty, judging by the media outrage. To hear Nancy Grace and Bill O'Reilly state it, the jurors were out of their minds not to agree with them and everyone else who wanted Anthony to pay for her daughter's death. However, it seems that even the jury was sick about the case after all.

Juror No. 3, Jennifer Ford, went so far as to tell ABC News that she and others were "sick to our stomachs" after the verdict. In fact, she even said that many members of the jury cried, but they had no choice but to vote Anthony not guilty due to lack of evidence.

For all of the backlash over the verdict, most could agree that the prosecution didn't deliver a strong case. By that alone, Anthony had to be declared not guilty, although it is clear that the jury hardly considered her innocent. They seemed to be the only 12 people in America who were willing to label her innocent, yet if they even believe she did it, it makes a few powerful statements.

Part of the reason everyone is against Anthony is because Grace, and much of the media, has helped make it so. Of course, Anthony's own questionable actions and past lies made it far too easy for them, turning her into an easy-to-demonize figure. Even the jurors who acquitted Anthony didn't like her, but they didn't have to like her to find her not guilty.

That may actually speak to the strength of the jury system, as the jurors put their dislike of Anthony aside to deliver a fair verdict -- at least fair according to the facts of the trial. The triers of fact didn't ignore the reasonable doubt and loopholes left open by the prosecution's case, although the likes of Grace would have preferred they did.

Nevertheless, even though Anthony has been found not guilty of killing her daughter, the suspicion that she did and got away with it will never go away. The fury against her is just too great by now, even extending to those who acquitted her, although they were the only ones who didn't let it cloud their judgment.

That outrage may not go away anytime soon, especially with Thursday's breaking news from the Associated Press. Although Anthony was sentenced to four years for lying to cops, she could go free in weeks since she already served three years in jail. As such, she'll have to hope that the outside world has found other things to be mad about by next month.

Never watched Nancy Grace about this. - I went straight to the documents and tape recordings of Casey Anthony - and if anyone took that kind of time to read the evidence they would have no questions about the innocence or guilt of Casey. Guilty, guilty , guilty. - why would anyone coverup an accidental death? Her lies were unbelievable.. She killed her daughter and had no remorse. period.

What a stupid article. So are you arguing for Anthony or against Nancy Grace? Vilifying the media doesn't make Anthony innocent. Your an idiot.

To the jurors: WE GET IT that the reason you were not willing to convict Casey of 1st degree murder due to the lack of this type of hard proof, there was not any fingerprints, no DNA, no witnnesses of the actual murder, fully understood. BUT due to the ABSOLUTELY OVERWHELMING amount of circumstancial evidence which ALL points to Casey being involved in this child's death, not to mention pretty #$%$ convincing forensic evidence (hair found in the trunk of CASEY'S CAR with a band of decomp) Then the hair that was actually taken from Caylee's recovered skull ALSO showed this same band of decomp on those hairs!! HOW ON EARTH WERE YOU UNABLE TO CONVICT HER OF AT LEAST A LESSER CHARGE. I read the charges, and all the options you were all given and you #$%$ well could have convicted her in the very least of MANSLAUGHTER or AGGRAVATED MANSLAUGHTER!!!!!!!!! #$%$ were you guys doing the entire trial?? Were you asleep or are you just plain slow to comprehend the circumstances surrounding this case? Casey was the last one seen with caylee, Casey was the one with a myspace password "TIMER55" this is a direct link to premeditation because 55 days until Caylee was returned was part of the story involving the fake nanny, which was proven to be completely made up so if she had that as her password way back then, then obviously she had been planning this elaborate story for some time. Casey deserves to be rotting in jail with at least a manslaughter conviction. But now she will walk free on Wed and start her plans of bringing another child into this world so she can do God knows what to it. You guys failed BIGTIME and you know it in your hearts. Good luck sleeping at night, I hope your rush to the verdict in order to get home faster was worth the guilt you should be feeling right about now.

No they did not stick to the facts. They did not even follow jury instructions.
    • Shiela  •  10 mths ago
One thing for sure is that this is not over for her at all. Her life is going to be a living hell. So she may not be behind bars. But it is still a life sentence for her.
      • tom 10 mths ago
Yahoo would give her a job
    • Nana B  •  10 mths ago
If the jurors believe there was lack of evidence of murder, Casey's lawyer presented that tot died from drowning. Whose fault was that? couldn't they reason that as manslaughter or child neglect. Maybe they were chloroformed to make them drowsy. They felt asleep.
      • sarita 10 mths ago
"whose fault was that?" I believe that was the point, the jury felt there wasn't strong evidence presented to determine exactly how Caylee died. I believe that Casey is guilty but the eveidence has to be there. We can't just convict because we think she did it somewhere, somehow. It sucks, but that is our system and it works for the most part.

What about the fact that Casey Anthony had custody of her daughter, had access to the car, duct tape, clothes that Caylee was wearing (which Cindy said she never saw before), baby blanket and had full knowledge of the area where she was thrown away. Oh and who lies and not reports their missing daughter and was only found out when the grandmother calls?? And the Anthony's investigators knew to look in that wooded area after bring told by a psychic. Get real!! The jury in the Scott Peterson case which had less forensics took a week to go through the evidence. The jurors in this case took eleven hours. Talk about not doing their due diligence. It seems that they quick to get the hell out of there and get back to their summer. Now a killer walks free.....
    • Tim K  •  10 mths ago
What if Casey Anthony was a large, unattractive person? or a man? (single dad, not single mom)? Cant help but think these factors also subtly influence jurors.
    • tom  •  10 mths ago
Only a Libtard writing for Yahoo would take the side of a sick woman killing her child then twist a story to make Bill Oriely look like a Bad guy . Hey Robert did Bill or Nancy Duct tape a little girls mouth shut and throw her in a swamp . Your a sick perverted a*s*s to even write a story like this one, but its what I exspect from you second hand news writers on yahoo .

Let me see, a mother goes into a cleaners but leaves her three year old in the car for 5 minutes. She is arrested and convicted of child abuse. Casey leaves baby in the swamps to die or after she dies. Sends police after a nanny named Zanny. Curses her mother out from her cell because mom doesn't have boyfriends phone number. Casey is found not guilty of child abuse. Great jury! One juror said they couldn't connect the dots. For goodness sakes, the baby was dead in the swamp. The mother hid it from everyone for 31 days. Who couldn't connect the dots??? Jurors should be able to take a math test before qualifying for jury duty. They must be able to add 2 plus 3 and connect the dots to realize the answer is 5.

Can't blame Nancy Grace (I didn't even know who she was until recently) so my opinion was definitely not swayed by her or Bill O'Reilly - Praying Casey Anthony will get justice do her by society snubbing @ least!!! Though I wish the verdict read Guilty - I have no sympathy for the Jury what-so-ever - my sympathy is for "Caylee Marie" and the LACK of Justice she was given =( [to bad Casey's last few days can't be with her buddies in lock-up verses the nice quiet cell she's being provided to secure her safety *GRR*]

My comment is really a question as to "why" Juror #3 seemingly speaking for the entire jury? All she is say is "We all are "sick at our stomachs". Why are we not hearing from other jurors? Is this juror giving in to the fact everyone is coming down on her for her decision and can't handle her decision? Seems to me we should hear from the other jurors on how they feel not just one on how they all feel. This one jurur started this immediately after the public started disagreeing with the verdict. I personnaly think she is doing this to get pressure off her and for the attenetion. Just my two cents for what it's worth!
    • Sam  •  10 mths ago
In the judge's jury instructions I don't remember hearing," Because Nancy Grace and Bill O rielly said you must vote guilty, take at least a few minutes before you return your verdict...I don't think that instruction is in any court in this country..$$$$$$$$$and hype motivate many...The system has worked...Let it go and both of them should be suspended without pay....
