A 9-month-old baby boy was shot and killed in what police are calling a gang-related, drive-by shooting spree in downtown Detroit. The baby makes the second child killed by gunfire in this year, says the Detroit Free Press. Here are details about those killings and murder in Detroit.
* According several neighbors in the 8400 block of Greenview in Detroit's west side, they heard shots as they were getting ready for work early Monday morning.
* Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said officers took the call about shootings at about 4:20 a.m. They found eight people were sleeping at a home, including three children.
* Police say 37 bullets were fired into the home from what they believe, based on descriptions, was a light-colored minivan. A witness described it as a drive-by that sped off quickly.
* According to CBS News Windsor, Police Sgt. Gary Diaz says shell casings were found around the outside of the house. No arrests have been made.
* The baby's mother, Diamond Salter, 19, said when she heard the shootings, she grabbed her son, Delric Waymon Miller IV, from the couch where he was sleeping and hurried to the basement.
* She realized he had blood on him and he wasn't waking up. According to relatives, the boy was shot in the arm and the bullet passed through his body. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:30 a.m.
* Godbee strictly warned the child's family about retaliation for the death and stressed the importance of pulling together as a community.
* Kade'jah Davis, 12, a sixth grade honors student, was fatally shot on Jan. 31 at her home on Ferguson, says another Detroit Free Press article.
* Joshua Brown, 19, was charged with first degree murder, intent to murder and felony firearm use. The youth's mother, Heather Brown, 35, was charged as an accessory after the fact.
* According to Davis' mother, Almanda Talton, she was accused of stealing a cellphone that she had found and returned it to a nearby business. Brown showed up at her house and argued with her over the phone. Talton says after she shut the door, shots were fired into it.
* Last week, a 36th district court judge adjourned the case until March 13 as the Browns have different lawyers.
