    Detroit Children's Museum closes doors again

    DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Children's Museum has closed again amid ongoing financial problems at the shuttered Detroit Science Center, which runs the attraction.

    The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press report the Children's Museum had been able to stay open through December despite the Science Center's troubles because of federal support. On Thursday, the Science Center issued a statement saying the Children's Museum was closed.

    The Science Center, which shut its doors in September, remains closed as officials try to raise funds for it to reopen.

    The Children's Museum was shuttered in 2009 amid cost-cutting by the city's school district. It reopened in 2010 with revamped exhibits, a new preschool area and more of its thousands of artifacts on display under an agreement with the Science Center.
