The Arizona Diamondbacks signed veteran first baseman and outfielder Shelley Duncan to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, the Arizona Republic reported Sunday.

Ducan went 10 for 55 and hit two home runs with the Tampa Bay Rays last season while also hitting .215 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs in 335 at-bats with Triple-A Durham.

Duncan, a Tucson, Ariz., native, played three seasons at the University of Arizona before being selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft.

The 34-year-old is the son of Dave Duncan, Arizona's new special assistant to the general manager and former St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach.
