DNC Ad Uses Public Workers to Hit Romney

Although Mitt Romney has called accusations that he wants to cut teachers, firefighters and cops "absurd," the Democratic National Committee doesn't want voters to forget them. That's the gist of a new ad released on Wednesday that uses three public workers to speak out against "Romney economics."

The video introduces viewers to Michael, a fireman, Martha, a teacher, and DeMar, a police officer, who warn that "Mitt Romney says there should be fewer of me."

"He wants to cut taxes for people like himself by cutting jobs like mine," Michael says.

Romney criticized President Obama on Friday following the resident's remark that the private sector "is doing fine."

"He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers," Romney said. "Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."

Romney went on to clarify his remarks during a Tuesday Fox News appearance, arguing that "the federal government doesn't pay for teachers, firefighters or policemen. So obviously that's completely absurd."

However, President Obama's stimulus package, which Romney has criticized, provided funding for public workers, and and some salary money for firefighters, police officers and teachers comes from federal aid.
