Doctor Strange Will Be A “Very Dark Fantasia,” Costume Details Emerge

Filming on ‘Doctor Strange’ is due to commence in just three months time. This means that production plans are already well under-way, and because of this details of the film’s tone, style, and look are beginning to emerge.

In fact, Ben Davis, who will be reprising his work as cinematographer on Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ on ‘Doctor Strange’, has provided the biggest revelations yet when it comes to the film, explaining that it will be Marvel’s “very dark ‘Fantasia’.”

Speaking to Screen Daily, via Comic Book Movie, Davis tantalisingly teased that ‘Doctor Strange’ has a “psychedelic grounding,” before he then went on to add that it’s “not your typical Marvel action movie.”

And while those remarks were more than enough to increase anticipation for ‘Doctor Strange’ a tad, his next description and comparison took that excitement up several more notches.

“Most of the work within it is about other dimensions,” he explained. “And I described it, I think, when I was talking to Marvel as Marvel’s ‘Fantasia’, in a way, because it’s so sort of out there and different to everything else that they’ve done.”

Yep: I’m sold. For those who don’t know, ‘Fantasia’ is a 1940 Disney film that was grandiose, ambitious, and wonderfully un-formulaic, as it revolves around eight animated segments, each of which are set to classical music pieces.

Marvel’s most psychedelic and unconventional scenes came towards the end of ‘Ant-Man’. If you haven’t seen the film, you should probably look away now as I’m about to SPOIL the ending it.

After shrinking to a subatomic size, Ant-Man finds himself locked inside an eternal quantum realm where it looks like he’s going to be forever. However, he is able to reverse the effects and grow into a normal size again, but not before giving us a glimpse at Marvel’s most trippy scenes to date.

Meanwhile, at presentation in Africa last week, Disney also unveiled concept art of Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Doctor Strange’ attire.

Twitter soon lit up with tweets detailing the clothes, via Comic Book, and it was revealed that while the costume isn’t too colourful (his “robes are blood red and green and cap is black”), Cumberbatch has never looked more “menacing.” Plus he, obviously, has a goatee.

Hopefully we’ll get our first real look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange sometime around November when the film’s production kicks off. ‘Doctor Strange’ will finally be with us on November 4, 2016.
