Dogs versus cats is a never-ending debate that usually reveals more about which furry critter you prefer rather than delivering any meaningful conclusion on which rules the domestic animal kingdom.

But a recent, fairly unscientific test by the BBC, pit the night vision skills of a dog against a cat in an attempt to demonstrate which had the upper paw.

Royal Veterinary College senior ophthalmologist Dr. Rick Sanchez put a cat and a dog through a maze test in a pitch-black room to see which would navigate the dark passage quicker.

With night vision five times better than humans, dogs are known to be better at making their way in the dark than us, but how do dogs fare when matched against their smaller, feline rivals?

Well, much of the science on this is already known, so we won't spoil it for you, but in case you prefer visual proof over science journal data, the video above reveals the winner in no uncertain terms.

Don't take it personally, your favorite furry friend still has a bunch of other redeeming qualities.
