Don’t Get Excited About That Brian Grazer-Eddie Murphy Netflix Movie Just Yet

At today’s Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit San Francisco, Imagine Entertainment Co-chairman and producer Brian Grazer told Bloomberg Television’s Emily Chang: “I’m going to do a movie with Netflix. … I’m going to do a tour-de-force movie that’s cinéma vérité with Eddie Murphy being as raw as he can be.”

However, one insider close to the production told Deadline that the project was too premature to announce at this point — that details weren’t even locked down from a project or contract standpoint.

During the interview Grazer praised Netflix, which streams the fourth season of Imagine’s Arrested Development. “I like Netflix a lot,” the Oscar-winning producer said. “We’re doing Arrested Development on Netflix. We did one season; we’re going to do another season. … I think the way they govern their creativity is exceptional. … If they like the idea and the foundational elements, you’re just off to do what you believe in. And they trust it. And it’s been working for them.”

On October 16, Netflix, as part of a partnership with Bleecker Street, is streaming and releasing its first feature film — Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts Of No Nationin 19 Landmark Theatre locations New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Indianapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego.
