    Douglasville, Ga., Auto Repair Shop Owner Featured in Street Rodder Magazine

    Lamar Lewallen leverages “day job” experience to restore a 1948 Ford Coupe

    Lamar Lewallen, owner of Lamar’s Main Street Collision in Douglasville, Ga., has spent more than two decades making sure his customers’ cars leave his shop looking and performing like (and often better-than) new. Lewallen’s business success over the years has allowed him the opportunity to put his automotive skills and experience into his favorite hobby: appropriately enough, the restoration of classic cars and street rods. Lewallen’s most recent project – a 1948 Ford long-door coupe – has made the pages of Street Rodder Magazine’s July 2011 issue.

    Lewallen purchased the ’48 Ford at an Ohio auto auction in 2005, but the daily demands of his body shop business kept him from starting the project until four years later. The ground-up restoration, which began in earnest in 2009, required the assistance of several of Lewallen’s friends (and fellow shop owners) in the region, including Alan Johnson from Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop in Alabama, as well as fellow Georgians Robert Brannon (boxing and bracing of the chassis), Matt Bishop (machine work on the motor) and Bobby Hartshorn (British Racing Green paint job). The result: an exquisite street rod worthy of the pages of Street Rodder Magazine.

    “I have been fortunate to have the opportunity in my career to restore more than 20 classic cars and hot rods now, and it is particularly rewarding when a respected publication like Street Rodder Magazine recognizes my efforts by featuring a car I’ve restored,” said Lewallen. “I find it even more rewarding, though, when my customers recognize that I put the same high standards and attention to detail when ‘restoring’ their cars – whether as a direct result of an accident or for routine maintenance and repairs – as I do with a classic car or street rod project car.”
