Dow Closes Nearly 420 Points Down (Again)
Just when the markets looked like they were starting to stabilize, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted on Thursday. The latest tumble came partly in response to growing anxiety about a second recession in the United States, and the similarly sinking Asian markets didn't help. "The sharp drop in the equities market comes amid a period of high volatility that has been accentuated by low trading volumes, concerns over the euro zone sovereign debt and its potential impact on the banking sector, and recent data that has economists lowering their outlooks for global economic growth," reports The New York Times.
