How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes did Monday

U.S stocks inched mostly higher in light trading on Monday as investors shrugged off falling energy prices, a plunging Russian ruble and fears that Greece could renege on its bailout. Six of the 10 sectors of the Standard and Poor's 500 index rose, led by utility stocks.

On Monday:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 15.48 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,038.23.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 1.80 points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,090.57.

The Nasdaq composite rose 0.05 points to 4,806.91.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,461.57 points, or 8.8 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 242.21 points, or 13.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 630.32 points, or 15.1 percent.
