You can download the Windows 10 Technical Preview right now

Microsoft unveils Project Spartan, its completely redesigned next-generation web browser

Less than 24 hours after Microsoft finally introduced its inexplicably named Windows 10 operating system to the world, the very first Technical Preview is now available to download. According to the video introduction, the Technical Preview will feature a wide variety of new features that Windows users have been interested to test out, including improved multitasking functionality, windowed Windows Store apps and, of course, the newfangled Start menu.

FROM EARLIER: The wait is finally over: Microsoft unveils Windows… 10?

In order to download the preview, just head over to the Technical Preview download page and follow these steps:

  1. Sign up for the Windows Insider Program

  2. Read the system requirements

  3. Click “Get the upgrade” and follow the instructions

Keep in mind that this is not designed for average PC users — Microsoft wants potential downloaders to understand that the Technical Preview is for “PC experts,” so take that into consideration before you go any further. There will be plenty of bugs and crashes that could damage or possibly even delete some of the data on your computer.

If you have an extra PC in the house that can handle Windows 10, and you have some degree of expertise with a computer, this preview is for you. Just be sure to back up everything before you begin.
