Downton Abbey Star Brendan Coyle Pleads Guilty to Drunk Driving, Banned from Getting Behind the Wheel: Reports

Just as valet Mr. Bates escaped arrest on Downton Abbey, the actor who plays him found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Brendan Coyle pleaded guilty to drunk driving Thursday at King's Lynn Magistrate's Court in eastern England, according to the Associated Press.

BBC News reports that Coyle, 52, can't drive for four years and two months and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

According to local paper the Eastern Daily Press, police pulled the star's BMW over Jan. 1, and he failed a breathalyzer test, with 98 mcg of alcohol in his breath. (The limit is 35 mcg.)
