‘Dr. Phil’ Up In Premiere, ‘Arsenio’ & ‘Bethenny’ Dip In Day 2, ‘Ellen’ Still Tops

The 12th season premiere of Dr. Phil, featuring an interview with the mother of Gia Allemand, drew a 2.7/8 household rating. That was up 17% from the show’s opener last fall. In Women 25-54, the veteran CBS Distribution talker logged a 1.2/8. Ellen was the top daytime syndicated talk show for a second straight day, posting a 2.9/8 in HH and 1.6/10 in W25-54, down slightly from its season premiere but still ahead of last September’s average as the talk show is yet to get a boost from lead-in Steve Harvey, which returns to originals next week. Live With Kelly & Michael was a close second with a 2.8/10 and 1.4/11. Katie (1.7/5, 0.7/4) was down 15% in HH and 36% in W 25-54 from its second season debut on Monday.

Of the newcomers, Bethenny (0.8/3, 0.5/4) was off by a tenth in each category from its so-so premiere. CBS/Tribune’s late-night talker, The Arsenio Hall Show, cooled off after a hot debut with a 1.5 HH rating, down 21% from Monday but still 50% above the time period’s average last fall. The show was affected by President Barack Obama’s primetime address, which pushed the start of Arsenio in several markets. As insiders predicted, The Test is proving sturdy, keeping steady at a 0.7 HH rating.
