    Drowned inmate's family sues Puerto Rico officials

    SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The family of one of eight inmates who drowned last year in Puerto Rico while shackled inside a state van caught in flood waters is suing the U.S. territory's government.

    The parents and three siblings of Juan Huertas Cumbas are seeking at least $1 million in damages. The lawsuit released Wednesday by the island's justice department accuses authorities of negligence.

    Cumbas was scheduled to be released from prison the day he died.

    Prosecutors have charged prison guard Hector Cruz Santiago with eight counts of negligent homicide.

    Authorities say Cruz was driving a van carrying 10 inmates back to a prison after court hearings in November when he tried to cross a flooded area and lost control of the van.

      If you haven't lived there, it's easy to defend. There's no comparison to the mainland. There were thousands of murders in PR with a population of just over 4 million. In LA, with a pop of 13 million, there were only 400. If you take those murders per capita and apply them to the pop of LA, they would have to put troops in the streets. Facts are not stupid.

      This country is a turd hole. Stupid people, half the country does not even attend school. Or even attempt to try college. Dealing drugs and guns is so much easier. A great place to stay the heck away from. I guess that is why so many of them moved to Deltona or Poinciana, Fl. Thus making them turd holes. They sorta live like the ones they hate, mexicans.

      Like those things never happen here and there is no madhouse environment surrounding us here in the mainland everyday. Stupidity and ignorance is what really gets me.
