Duggars Hope Sharing Michelle's Miscarriage Story On TV Will Help Other Grieving Families

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar hope that by airing the recent miscarriage tragedy of their 20th child will help other families and individuals coping with their own loss.

The super-sized reality family is back on TLC for a new season of their reality series, "19 Kids and Counting," and upcoming episodes will show how the Duggars coped with the loss of 20th child, Jubilee.

"They were there filming us when he thought we were going to find out if we were having a boy or a girl," Duggar dad Jim Bob told Access Hollywood on Monday, referring the couple's December doctor visit where they found out they had lost Jubilee.

"It was something that we should allow them to film," Michelle, 45 said. "We thought it was a way to help other families go through difficult situations."

When it first happened, though, the reality TV parents dreaded sharing the difficult news with the rest of their brood.

"The hard part was going home to tell the children," Michelle said of her 19 kids. "We had to tell them that the baby was gone and had died. It was a hard week, we just grieved and cried and our whole family pulled together."

The devoutly religious couple told Access they feel blessed to have spent the little time they did with baby Jubilee and continue to try and keep a positive outlook on the road ahead.

Beyond talk of their emotional and tragic loss, the couple spoke to Access about their large brood, which has made many headlines due to its size.

When asked what's best about having a big family - and also what difficulties they encounter -- Michelle offered some observations to Access.

"The sheer fun of always having someone to talk to, play with, hang out with, run errands with, there's always [someone] to do fun things with," Michelle explained, but admitted to one major drawback of a mega-sized brood.

"Inevitably, one person cannot find one of their shoes!" she added.

Jim Bob said his giant clan is able to tear apart their home in no time.

"We can mess up the house in a hurry and just trash it up!" he explained. "But, we can clean it up in a hurry."

And will Michelle and Jim Bob continue to expand their family?

"Looking into the face of those precious children, I would do it again," Michelle told Access. "They're precious, such a gift. I'm so grateful to have them."

The new season of "19 Kids and Counting" premieres on February 14 at 9 PM on TLC.

I feel that whatever Jim Bob and Michelle have prayed about and believe God wants for them is the way they should go. I was blessed with only one son and then my body decided no more and I had to have two surgeries that took out everything at age 28. God tells us in many ways what we are to do. I was blessed with step-children and step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren. Families are formed in all shapes and combinations and what God blesses us with is not always what we expect.

Ask any OB and they will tell you that about 25% of all pregnancies result in spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. Usually it's just so soon after conception that the women doesn't even realize she was pregnant. Miscarriage is usually nature's way of stopping a flawed pregnancy. I'm not downplaying the emotional tragedy a miscarriage brings, especially involving a pregnancy that has progressed a few months. My daughter-in-law miscarried at nearly 5 months because the umbilical cord to the baby was malformed and didn't provide enough nutrition to the baby when she got bigger. That was a tragic day for our family.

Sorry to hear about your Daughter-in-law Mellowwine. I miscarried at nearly 6 months due to placenta abruption. Its rough. My heart goes out to anyone who has experienced this.

my heart goes out to you both, Miss & Mellowwine, I was so blessed to be born, and live at such an early and often fatal time. I hope your families find peace and I wish you the best...

Investment properties (Real Estate) plus they are completely debt-free. They don't take government handouts. They shop at thrift shops. They're not on food stamps. They live within their means. Good for them!

They exploit their children for profit.

Has it ever possibly occurred to the Duggars that just maybe Michelle's body just cannot handle any more pregnancies?
    • angela  •  3 mths ago
I understand they they don't want to use birth control and that's a personal choice, but you also need to understand science.....
With every child you have your body's ovulation system shuts down for 10 to 15 months, so Michelle still will not hit menopause for many years. When you become 40 (or even younger for some), your body just doesn't work like it used to and fertility becomes an issue. Just because you will have enough eggs at age 60 does not mean you should be having children. The last child was over 3 months early and she just lost another, this should let you know that your body is not capable of nourishing a baby at that age.

the duggars belong to the Quiverfull Movement and they don't believe in birth control and basically "more kids the merrier" I think the miscarriage is a sign from her body that it's time to stop. it's probibly not health physically to have that many kids. But I don;t think they will give up until menopause puts a stop to it.

Let us All Pray For Menopause!!!! LMAO !!!!
      • TM 3 mths ago
The Quiverfull Movement is more than just having kids because God said to. They believe that they are spiritually purer than everyone else, and that they need to have so many kids in order to outbreed/number the greater unwashed population. With the help of their TV show, this particular family seems to be able to pay their own way, but other Quiverfull members around the country, do "their duty" while on public assistance.

I'm 43 an already going thru menopause, after my youngest daugter was born, I had 3 miscarriages!!!! I guess when your body cant do it anymore it kinda just knows!!! I just hope she doesn't lose her own life while cont. to become pregnant. I know its 2012 but woman can still die in child birth. I'm surprised her doctor is not telling her it time to shut it down....She does have 19 other children that would probably like to have their mom @ I don't think God is going to punish them if say she went & had her tubes tied!!!! Its their life, so whatever
      • GEORGE PORDGE 3 mths ago
Her Dr. said that she knew the risks and had been told what could happen and the decison was then hers.
      • Spuzzum 3 mths ago
who is having sex with you if you are in menopause. its time to pause men from doing junk like that. geesh.
      • RedHead 3 mths ago
spuzzum my husband has sex w/ me!!! & what does my sex life have to do w/ this stupid #$%$ having 19 kids!!!
    • daisy3  •  Dallas, Texas  •  3 mths ago
Well, it's certainly not the path I would have chosen, and I think they are courting disaster if she gets pregnant again, but, to each his own. I don't think a woman's body can endure multiple, unending pregnancies.
      • Spuzzum 3 mths ago
We all have to die sometime. The children you dont have because of birth control is murder. duh. duh. duh.
      • Allison 3 mths ago
if a child is not conceived because of birth control ,,,,,,how is that murder????? duh duh
    • DebraJ  •  San Francisco, California  •  3 mths ago
I would never say it is not their right to have multiple children, but I do feel it is very hard on a woman's body. When women used to have child after child due to no birth control their life expectancy was not as long as it is now. We live longer now and it is just too hard on us. This is her/their right but I think she will most likely start having more and more problems with miscarriages and possibly birth defects now as she is getting older and just keeps reproducing. I do feel bad for them and the loss of a child.
    • pjuldyl  •  3 mths ago
I feel bad for them but come on, 20 children maybe if she would raise the ones she already has, instead of making the younger ones do it she wouldn't feel the need to keep having kids she is 45 years old look what happened with her last child are they not going to be happy until they have a disabled child? enough is enough
    • Sam  •  3 mths ago
It is NOT a womans job to do what her husband wants When he wants it. How sick is that!!!
    • Sam  •  3 mths ago
Children do not get their needs met by their parents (adults) in families of this size. If a child has any kind of special needs he would get lost in this family. I don't think they take a "healthy life" seriously enough.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but she's not the only one who miscarried a baby. We all cope in our own way. If they wish to have more kids then let them. Look at the kind of life they lead. There can't be an quality time for all of them. It's just impossible. A funny little story here about my grandma who had 11 kids. They were all born between 1912 and 1935. By the time the younger ones were growing up, the older ones were all grown up and out of the house. One day my youngest Aunt asked my grandmother who that lady was that kept coming over to the house and having coffee with her. The lady just happened to be the oldest daughter. She didn't even know that that lady was her sister at that point in time.

Michelle is too old to still be having babies! Period.
    • Mimi  •  Cedar Rapids, Iowa  •  3 mths ago
It really is time to stop having more kids and enjoy the ones they have. This last baby miscarried and the one before Josie was born very premature and has physical and mental problems. When will they realize that they have been blessed but enough is enough
    • NancyK  •  3 mths ago
After watcdhing the program where Josie developed a fever then started seizuring then rushed to the hospital. Her sisters were the caretakers while Ma and Pa were out "salvationing" in El Salvador. That just seemed to dam wrong, stay home. With all the medical issues and costs of Josie then losing the next one, what do they need a thunderbolt to hit his groin? If they want to be an example let them practice what they preach to the kids on abstinence. Or is it their parental pergoative to do as I say not as I do and do and do and do and do and ot etc...............................................................

Is it fair to have so many children you make their siblings bathe them, feed them and babysit them on a daily basis? Is that fair to the others? They are not the ones that HAD those babies.

I wish someone would pull the plug on the Duggar side show. Is anyone else tired of the media's obsession with Michelle's moneymaker (her birth canal). Maybe she and hubby can write a book "The Childbearing Busine$$. How to reproduce for fun and profit." "We went from cracker to uppity with designer clothes and expensive dental work after number 15. And you can too.. With 19 kids we pay no federal taxes whatsoever and our kids automatically qualify for all the government grants for college you can possibly think of.."
