After letting the suspense build over his role in the forthcoming DC Comics movie, the Rock finally revealed on Twitter that he will play not the superhero but the villain.
The "Shazam" comics, first introduced in 1940 under the name "Captain Marvel," tell the story of Billy Batson, a 12-year-old boy who has the ability to transform into Captain Marvel simply by saying the word "Shazam." An acronym of the names of six ancient gods and heroes, the magic word summons their powers: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.
Black Adam, the superhero's arch nemesis, has the same powers but uses them for evil instead of good.
While DC has yet to announce release dates for the first "Shazam" feature, Variety reports that the studio has tapped Darren Lemke ("Shrek 4," "Jack the Giant Slayer") to pen the script.
