Covidien fell $.33 or .6 percent, to $57.78.

Patterson fell $.08 or .2 percent, to $34.02.

PerkinElmer fell $.15 or .5 percent, to $31.50.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. rose $.28 or .4 percent, to $63.83.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $.31 or .4 percent, to $69.47.

Waters fell $.02 or percent, to $84.53.
