    Earnings Preview: UBS to post Q4 earnings

    GENEVA (AP) — Switzerland's biggest bank UBS AG reports fourth-quarter results before markets open in Zurich on Tuesday.

    WHAT TO WATCH FOR: UBS managed to report a 1 billion Swiss francs ($1.09 billion) profit in the third quarter despite suffering a $2 billion loss due to alleged rogue trading.

    The incident led to the resignation of its chief executive Oswald Gruebel and the appointment of Sergio Ermotti as his successor. Ermotti has outlined his strategy of shrinking the investment unit and reducing the high-risk culture that led the bank into a series of costly blunders, from subprime mortgages to a major U.S. tax evasion case and the rogue trading scandal.

    Investors are looking for signs that the bank is cutting costs to make up for the expected shortfall in revenue from downsizing some of its more profitable, but risky, operations.

    WHY IT MATTERS: UBS has over 60,000 staff around the world and manages more than 2 trillion francs in assets.

    WHAT'S EXPECTED: Vontobel analyst Teresa Nielsen predicts a net profit of 878 million francs against consensus estimates of 658 million francs.

    LAST YEAR'S QUARTER: UBS reported fourth-quarter net profits of 1.29 billion francs ($1.35 billion) in 2010. This was later increased to 1.66 billion francs due to tax gains.

      President Obam likes socialism and wealth redistribution and decries the rich and super rich, unless of course they are the Wall Street super rich, or George Soros and Warren Buffett who are donating heavily to his campaign. By the way do most people realize the Wall Street Market makers (representing both the govt. making a market in various stocks , but can also play the market for their own accounts at the same time). These players average
      over $300 million yearly each, and there are over 360 market makers. These are the fat cats who love Obama as long as his bailouts fuel banks and the market. This , just like Stimulus money for Solyndra (a failing solar tech company), show Obama's hypocrisy. Note: Obama does not care one hoot about the poor or average American as long as he can beg, buy, bribe or conjoule you to vote for him. That is also why some 47% of All Americans do not pay any Federal taxes. Thus...It is time for the American voters to wise up before we end up like Greece.
