Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried Lead Cast Of Comedy ‘The Clapper’

EXCLUSIVE: Ed Helms and Amanda Seyfried are anchoring a new comedy called The Clapper said to be in the vein of The King of Comedy. This will be writer/director’s Dito Montiel’s next film, one that is a passion project for him as he is adapting from his own book of the same name. The Clapper is about a professional clapper for infomercials who gets plucked by a late night talk show host to be on his TV show. The notoriety that his 15 minutes of fame brings ends up costing him his job as well as a budding relationship with a girl who works at a gas station.

The project is a testament to how easily fame is achieved in today’s reality-program driven society and how it can complicate ordinary people’s lives. It is being produced by Helms and Mike Falbo through their Pacific Electric shingle. Robin Schorr is also producing.

Pacific Electric has a first-look deal at Universal Television and is currently in production on the animated presentation Rudy for Comedy Central and recently set-up Starters at FX.

Montiel (A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints), who is also producing The Clapper, last filmed the indie project Man Down starring Kate Mara, Shia LeBeof, Garry Oldman and Jai Courtney and also directed Robin Williams in his last film Boulevard. That movie also starred Kathy Baker and Bob Odenkirk.

Helms just wrapped production on the comedy Bastards opposite Owen Wilson which will debut from Warner Bros. this coming November. He is soon to begin production on the Starz series One Percent for the Oscar-nominated Revenant director Alejandro Inarritu. Hillary Swank and Ed Harris also star.

Seyfried is attached to star in Bleecker Street’s dramedy The Last Word with Shirley MacLaine. This past summer, in addition to being in Ted 2, she performed in a stage play for Neil LaBute entitled The Way We Get By. She is also readying to star in American Express from director Nash Edgerton opposite Charlize Theron (who is also producing), Joel Edgerton and David Oyelowo via Annapurna Pictures and Amazon.

Schorr, who is the former head of production for William Pohlad’s River Road Entertainment and also Kennedy/Marshall’s production company, was one of the producers on the Oscar-nominated feature documentary Food, Inc. Her other credits include Inner Demons and Kicks. She is also a producer on the spy/action comedy Cold Warriors.

Montiel is repped by WME and Underground. Helms is repped by UTA, Principato Young Entertainment and law firm Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. Seyfried is repped by Innovative Artists.
