    Educated Women More Prominent in Workplace, Earning More Money According to OnlineSchools.com Infographic

    In August, Forbes released its list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, which included the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama and eccentric singer / songwriter Lady Gaga. Although only five of the women from Forbes’ list made the magazine’s overall Most Powerful People list, women around the world are continuing to see improvements in their average salaries, work-place benefits and responsibilities.

    OnlineSchools.com, a digital resource for online education from kindergarten to graduate school, recently launched “Wonder Women,” an analysis of the leading ladies who make up Forbes’ list of the World’s Most Powerful Women of 2011. Of those 100 women, 88 percent have children—and perhaps not coincidentally, many of these women work in family-friendly companies like Kraft Foods and Morgan Stanley, who provide fully-paid maternity leaves. Although some companies have these types of perks for women in the workplace, the United States, Swaziland, and Papa New Guinea are the only three countries that do not guarantee paid maternity leave.

    “Juggling a powerful career and a family can be a lot for anyone to handle,” said Seth Restaino, OnlineSchools.com spokesperson. “However, this list not only proves that it can be done, but that more and more family-oriented women are taking the lead in some of the most distinguished industries.”

    College also appears to play a key role in the success of these women. Of the 100 women, 56 have a master’s degree or higher, including the fourth most powerful woman, PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, who has a Master of Business Administration from Yale University. Along with Nooyi, many of these women excel not only in business, but also politics and media. Additionally, since 1979 women with college educations have seen a higher increase in average earnings than men.

    “The majority of the women on this list worked hard to earn top degrees from prestigious schools,” said Restaino. “They serve as positive role models to young women who hope to someday see themselves included in the top 100.”
