    EEUU: Pediatra habría usado a hijastra para experimentos

    DOVER, Delaware, EE.UU. (AP) — Un pediatra que alcanzó renombre por su investigación sobre las experiencias cercanas a la muerte de niños quizá experimentó con su hijastra de 11 años, induciéndole sensación de ahogamiento, dijo la policía en documentos presentados ante un tribunal.

    La posible relación entre las investigaciones del doctor Melvin Morse y las denuncias de ahogamiento inducido están contenidas en una declaración jurada y notariada con vistas a una orden de cateo de las computadoras de Morse. The Associated Press obtuvo el martes el documento.

    De acuerdo con el documento, el doctor Melvin Morse indujo en la niña "un posible estado cercano a la muerte mediante la simulación de ahogamiento".

    "Esta 'sensación inducida de ahogamiento" que él ha practicado... se enmarca en el área de los estudios que efectúa", señaló la policía en la declaración. "Es lógico que por lo tanto él haya escrito o investigado sobre el tema del 'ahogamiento inducido''', agregó.

    Joe Hurley, el abogado de Morse, dijo que la idea de que el experto hubiera experimentado en su propia hija "es la más abrupta de las conjeturas".

    Morse, quien comparecerá preliminarmente el jueves por los cargos del delito grave de poner en peligro la vida de una menor de edad y de asociación ilícita, es autor de diversos libros y artículos sobre ciencia paranormal y experiencias cercanas a la muerte.

    Morse dijo el lunes en entrevista telefónica con la AP que los cargos contra él son una reacción excesiva de las autoridades debido a las críticas que recibieron por el escándalo de violación de menores en el que estuvo implicado otro pediatra.

    Morse se dijo víctima de la "histeria posterior al caso Bradley", en referencia al pediatra Earl Bradley, que fue declarado culpable hace un año y cumple 14 sentencias perpetuas por abusar sexualmente de varios de sus pacientes durante más de una década.
