Egypt adjourns trial of NGO workers until April 26

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian court has adjourned the trial of 16 Americans and 27 other employees of nonprofit groups until April 26.

Judge Mahmoud Mohammed Shoukry presided over a chaotic opening session of the trial Sunday before adjourning the case until the end of April.

The NGO workers have been charged with operating without a license and using illegal foreign funds to foment unrest.

Thirteen Egyptian defendants were in court for the opening hearing. They were held in a metal cage, as is customary in Egyptian trials.

Of the 16 Americans charged in the case, seven have been banned from leaving Egypt. They were not in court Sunday.

The case has severely strained U.S.-Egyptian relations. American officials have threatened to cut off $1.5 billion in aid if the dispute is not resolved.

Without sounding too judgmental, what would the US think if one of the Muslim countries of the world sent a bunch of people over to our country and started to try to install THEIR ideas into our government. Oh, that's right they are already doing that. We just sit like docile cows. I guess they don't like it when we do it to them.

What do yo mean IF!!! It happens all the time. Difference is they are not sending us 1.5 bil a year. I think we should consider that a lets us get away with it fee if they dont want to let us get away with it we should keep our money.

Do you think Egypt would take american hostages(day59) if they thought our response would be swift and lethal?
Ask Iran. Why do you think they released our hostages on R.R inauguration day?

Mr. President you're starting to sound like Jimmy Carter. Those are our American Citizens, what are you going to do about it? Isn't it obvious that the Middle East knows that you are weak, and will run away when the going gets tough. History will show that you ran away from all controversies during your Presidency.

Issue to ponder: If the Americans stay in the embassy (American soil by international law and treaty) they cannot be "brought to justice" Will Egypt declare war on the US by forcibly entering the embassy (attacking Us soil) to kidnap American citizens? or will this farce continue while Egypt loose face before the muslim world?

Hopefully the NGO workers are all libturds. The truly sad part is that 8 million Coptic Christians are trapped in this Muslim hell-hole.

Let's remember these truths.....before the Egyptian unrest, Obama's marxist comrades, Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dorn, were thrown out of Egypt for "fomenting unrest" three years ago. Then, shortly thereafter, the Iranian ships were intercepted in the Mediteranean by Israli gunboats and boarded because they had arms for Syria...and indeed, they did. And who was behind that effort?? Dorn and Ayers. Do you recall tha Americans were the loudest whiners of those injured in the boardiing? Then the Egyptian "revolution" began. Paybacks, I suppose. Now, Sam LaHood, the son of Obama's Transportation secratary in up to his butt in Egyptian turmoil with "non-profit" groups using "foreign money" to create more unrest. Face it, Folks. Obama is trying to Establish his own nation. And if not here, then there. Obama is a most dangerous man and MUST be removed from any and all postions of influence. And let's hope that jail is in the marxists weasel's future. And, Lahood can rot in Egyptian jails for being a marxist and seeking revolution for Obama.

I am so sick of the corruption.....I want them to have a trial....what were they really doing over there anyway? If there is a trial perhaps we will finally know what really was going on. If they broke Egypts laws while in Egypt....guess they will be punished. Just like if we had foreigners here starting trouble....

They want to give the US plenty of time to violate the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. We agreed to pay for Israeli security every year. Now we are threatening to stop paying Egypt unless they release US CRIMINALS. Egypt should execute every one of them, they had no business over there.

Please keep the 1.5 Billion "military" aid..and i stress military because it sure isn't financial, use them to build schools in your own country because the amount of ignorance witnessed in some of these comments is nothing short of enriched weapons grade idiocy

Egypt is a sovereign state with laws barring the unmonitored flow of foreign funds, laws that you also share..your "NGO" workers with NGO here really spelling "Infiltrators"..They broke those laws and should and will be tried.

And please don't be naive and tell me you wouldn't do the same thing..if an Egyptian NGO was operating on US soil you'd have them infiltrated before they even start..and you would waterboard them if they order felafels spicy enough to give an American a stomach ache..does the NYPD infiltrating middle eastern cafes in the US ring a bell?.

The military aid you give us is nothing but a bribe..aimed at making sure the Camp David treaty still stands even though it's now expired and requires a review or it will be void in accordance with international laws, You have been told repeatedly to keep your aid but you insist on giving it..why you ask..simply because if not for your military aid we will go for the Russians for military equipment and then you can kiss billions of dollars worth of almost yearly contracts to your military industries goodbye and what little left of your influence along with it.

      Please leave our country be.
      God bless everyone everywhere

...when a decision holds true to the spirit of the law, it may well be that the bodies of the law find their place, as designed, to govern as guiding principles and not as the principal- that freedom may rule for one and all- perhaps?
