Egypt army, police move to evict Cairo protesters

CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian army troops and police have launched a major assault to evict protesters from Cairo's Tahrir Square.

Hundreds of army soldiers and police, backed by armored personnel carriers, used tear gas, rubber bullets and batons to evict several thousand protesters Sunday from the central Cairo square that saw the birth of the popular uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak nine months ago.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene said police and troops chased the protesters out of most of the square, dismantling their tents and tearing their banners.

The protesters are demanding that the military, which took over from Mubarak in February, quickly announce a date for the handover of power to a civilian government.

Who didn't see this coming? They believed their military would hand over power and now are awakening to the truth. They should have never let the military keep control even short term now they have to do it all over again. I just hope our government minds it's own business and stays out of this mess and all others over there. Let them all iron out their own problems and then we can just deal with whoever ends up running their countries.

Repression causes discontent.......That is an idea that never seems to cross the minds of control freaks.

This just shows how much you know about foreign affairs (nothing, in case you were wondering). Mubarek was a key ally of the US, just like many dictators. Obama was being a realist when Mubarek's reign was clearly ending. And by the way we really didn't do anything to help it... the people did it on their own. Yes, Chubbie, not everything in the world is about America. Wake up. ANd by the way, the constant name-calling about Obama is really at a 3rd grade level. hey, do you punch your fellow 9 year olds too? How immature you are.

Egypt's military & Mubarak = the same animal. Nothing changes if that military stays in place, exactly what the US wants, a different face but same boot on Egypyian necks.

Simply, the Egyptian people after 10 months since Feb 11, discovered that Mubarak = the interim military government exactly, so what is happening now is the continuation of the Egyptian revolution to get rid of Mubarak II.

And what is at stake is radicalism prevails in Egypt.
The main goal of Caliphates is to arrange a massive army and call for Jihad against infidel states and expansion of the Caliphate. Various caliphates have used this strategy to expand their states. The reason behind that is millions of eager men willingly joining the fight with the Infidels because they believe that Allah will reward them heftily if they die. There has never been a shortage of recruits in the army. This is the same reason there is no shortage of suicide bombers today. The ultimate goal of the Caliphate would be to bring every square inch of this planet under Islam and convert/subdue all remaining Infidels.
Various groups around the world are actively advocating the creation of the Caliphate. Surprisingly, the most vocal of these groups, Hizb ut-Tahrir, is based in the UK and other countries in Western Europe and Australia. Just last year, thousands of Muslims gathered in a Khilafat conference to show support for the future Caliphate in Jakarta, Indonesia. The growing support for this empire all over the world is evident. So what does the future hold? A massive Islamic empire where outspoken voices, homosexuals and other “immoral” people will executed on a regular basis? A fascist empire expanding itself bit-by-bit through demographic conquest, like we’re seeing in modern day Europe. This is just another step in the process.

thanks American, it might make an exciting book but i don't think it's likely to happen, the bank has too much power and controls most militaries in the west, there are few countries left in the Middle East that aren't controlled by the bank which may be the biggest reason the U.S., Israel, and the UK are fomenting so many false revolutions and looking at starting new wars in the middle east, banks don't care about people and they probably don't care about religions either

@American: Then they would turn on each other and start killing each other on a grand scale over who is the rightful Caliphate as they've done in the past since Mohammad died.

There is a common ground with all countries who make it policy to repress the populous. It's called the will for FREEDOM.

In any revolution, the decisive factor is always who's side the military takes. However, the revolution has to figure out as early as possible if it can control the military later on - a very difficult task.

These people in the middle east have been to long in dictatorships to free them, we just over throw their Evil God and next month they will all be maniacs so they will set up another God worse then the one they had, we will support him for a while until he screws with the dollar. Oh! by the way our leaders are more of a concern to me then all the other Hitlers out their anyway.
