El Salvador asking US to extend migrant program

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — El Salvador's president says he will ask Washington to halt deportations of Salvadorans and extend a program that allows those who are in the U.S. illegally to stay.

President Mauricio Funes says he wants to be sure El Salvador's "temporary protected status" doesn't expire in March.

That U.S. program benefits foreigners whose return to their home country may be dangerous because of a natural disaster or other reasons.

Funes said Friday that 10 days of heavy rains have destroyed crops and towns in El Salvador while killing 32 people. The storms have killed 105 across Central America.

The U.S. granted El Salvador temporary protected status in 2001 after earthquakes devastated the nation. It has been extended since.

No way Jose'. All illegals must leave first, then apply for admission just like everyone else.
      • Sour07 7 mths ago
did we apply for admission when we killed all the indians bro?!?!?

        didnt think so.
      • Bob 7 mths ago
Did the indians have the manpower to stop us? No way. Bro. Do we have the manpower to stop these guys? Yes way. Bro. We're just refusing to exercise it.

When the elected officials REFUSE to follow the will of it's people. it is time to take matters into our own hands......

The U.S. is not responsible for the lively-hood of these illegals. They chose to come here illegally, so they should not be surprised when they are deported. I'm not surprised that they come here but we can't take them all, between our own expanding population and downward-spiraling economy there is no other choice. It's not just bad for the illegals either, in another ten years we could be looking at birth limits on families here in the U.S. just as it is in other countries.

Are yoo sayin' that we cain't keep on agrowin' forever? Are yoo sayin' that amerika doesn't have endless room, resoursey thangs, an jobs?

Why, that ain't modurn thinkin', heck that ain't even christian. What the ding dang heck are yoo, an environmental?

Eventually the U.S. will come to an impasse, people are living longer lives and having children at increasingly exponential rates. There are a ton of reasons we don't have enough jobs, I won't list them all because there isn't enough space for them. I don't care about modern thinking, I care about common sense, i'm not religious in any way and no i'm not an Environmentalist. Simply because my profile says i'm in Kentucky doesn't mean I am from Kentucky, it might enlighten you to know I am from California, born and raised on the west coast. So please close your mouth so the illiterate s**t will stop falling out.

We should deport all Mara Savatrucha, or MS-13 members now without delay. MS 13 is one the most notorious gangs in the world imported from El Salvador.

We need a list of every politician that votes to extend it on a wallet card that we can carry into the polls with us in November 2012.

If they are here illegally send them home, no point in encouraging more of them to come expecting to stay.

MS-13 is one of the most violent Salvadoran gangs in existence. They murder for sport and have ruined our cities, enabled by our degenerate Federal Government. The USA is its own worst enemy!

No, thank you. Enough of the degenerate low-lives of MS-13 and their ilk and family have infiltrated our society. it was bad enough with our own gangs, take back your trash.

I am the child of two immigrant parents who came here legally and earned their citizenship. My father ended up joining the military and still serves our country to this day and my mom has a great business that employs a fair number of people. This is the type of immigration that any country wants and needs. On the flip side, living in Los Angeles, many of the people I have enountered from El Salvador (sorry to generalize but from my experience) happen to be in large drug gangs or quietly support them as they have families that are either in gangs or benefit from them. Why are we giving leniency to a people that have a brought so much crime to our country and very little benefit? Because they had some natural disaster 11 years ago that killed less people then their own MS-13 gang kills on a monthly basis in our country? Of course the president of El Salvador doesnt want them back since he knows his country will be more effed up with those people infecting his country. I am a California liberal and I say ship these people out now! I don't lay blame on the dems for this though as alot of people seem to want to do on this site. If you pay attention to your elected officials and their voting patterns, the repubs actually vote more to help the illegals then even the dems contrary to the bull that comes out of their mouths. Both parties are guilty of caving in to this and both need to be punished by having the public start voting out any politician who doesn't listen to his constituency and stop the freebies for illegals.

It's cotton picking in Alabama, I stopped along side one field today and watched those big ole combine's do the work of about 2,000,000 Salvadorans. Remember, necessity is the mother of invention, so if it has to be hand picked now we'll come up with something automatic to do it.
