This All-Electric Corvette Could Crush World Record

The last time driver Johnny Bohmer went flat out in Genovation’s heavily modified all-electric Corvette, dubbed the GXE (Genovation Extreme Electric), the car casually broke the world record for the fastest road legal electric car at 186.6 mph. But tomorrow, the team looks to shatter that record by cracking the 200 mph mark at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The difference between what will happen tomorrow and its past performance, is that previously, Genovation used a “de-powered” testing setup on the GXE, and still managed to break the record for the fastest electric car. Now, by using what it learned to tune the GXE even more, Genovation seems pretty confident in breaking to 200 mph barrier.

The dual-electric motors on GXE produce over 700 horsepower from more than 600 lb-ft of torque, far surpassing the 505hp and 400 lb-ft of torque found in a standard Corvette Z06. And on the 3-mile runway at Kennedy Space Center, the same one used to launch the Space Shuttle back in the day, the GXE should have plenty of room to get up to speed.

If that isn’t exciting enough, Genovation is hoping to sell similarly equipped vehicles to regular Joe’s, as long as they have around $330,000 to spare.
