Elizabeth Warren is Right: Class Warfare Tactic a Joke

COMMENTARY | Is anyone else getting tired of hearing the Republicans whine about the same old thing? They just don't get it, but there is a strong woman in Massachusetts who is telling them like it is. That woman is Elizabeth Warren, and she is currently running for Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat.

Warren is a former White House financial reform adviser, and though she has never run for political office before, the woman is brilliant politically. While campaigning, she answered the critics of President Obama's plan to slightly increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans.

According to the Huffington Post, Warren remarked:

"You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did. Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

Most of the GOP would like to see the deficit reduction plan cut into social programs, including education, and the Republicans seem to have no clue that most people in the United States use social programs, whether they are Democrat, Republican, or independent.

Do they not realize our children need to be educated so there are competent adults who can take over the jobs that are needed to run our country in each generation? We need teachers, doctors, nurses, policeman, accountants, electrical engineers, and construction workers. From the jobs that are considered menial to the jobs requiring high-level skills, conservatives need them just as much as the rest of us.

Congressman John Fleming , R.-La., complained about the tax hike early this week. Fleming whines that he can't afford to live on $400,000 after he meets all of his expenses and feeds his family. He is the shining example of how many of the Republicans in office think.

Warren is the strong woman we've needed to explain, simply, that this is wrong. Our country was built by people who work together to make things happen, not by people who live in glass houses.

The other day I saw an elderly man get out of his vehicle and slowly walk with a cane into the store. The van he drove had a bumper sticker that read, "GET RID OF OBAMA AND HIS SOCIALISM" in big bold letters. I sat for a minute as I digested the scene. The man is most likely on Medicare. If there was ever a socialist program, that would be it. I wanted to ask him if he would be OK if his Medicare was canceled, but I just shook my head and drove away.

If I lived in Massachusetts, I would be voting for Elizabeth Warren, and I hope she continues to voice her commonsense opinions and challenge the Republican accusations against our current administration.

Q: Why was Warren refused a room at the Marriott ?

      A: She couldn't find her reservation !

Loganville, YOU are part of the problem. Who the F are you to say how much of their own a person should or should not be able to keep?

"He should be happy making $X, anthing above that is just greed". Because YOU should be able to make determinations about how much people should get??

New Idea: If a District Representative votes Against a Bill that Increases Spending, His District DOES NOT Have to PAY for the INCREASE. All the Other Districts will be Levied an Extra Charge equal to the Spending Increase. Passing a Bill is currently a 2-Step Process: #1. Vote on the WORDING(legislation) and #2. Vote on the FUNDING(pay for the Legislation). It will now be easier to Pass a Bill(#1), because a Representative can Vote FOR the Concept and turn around and #2 Vote AGAINST their District Paying for it. If the Rep misses the #2 vote, their District will have to pay for their share of the legislation.

The Class Warfare statement is part of a strategy. The word "Class Warfare" is to be spread and said by everyone, and repeated until it is on the minds of most Americans. You heard other words stated that was designed to have the same impact: "He lacks Leadership," "he is against Israel," "The President is a Socialist," etc. etc.. This strategy works well on weak minds, and accomplish what I call the parrot effect: People speaking without thinking, just making the sounds of words and failing to take the time to think about what is being said or why. It is sad to see the Republican Party reduced to this status. I guess we are done as a Party.
      • CunningStuntman 8 mths ago
Its not a strategy if it's accurate. If this doesn't smack of "class warfare", I'm not sure what would.

So, if "*ALL* people in the United States use social programs", why don't *ALL* people in the United States pay taxes, and at the same rate??

I've asked these questions several times, but none of the window-licking Warren supporters can answer:

What is "fair"? 25% federal income tax? 35%? 99%?

Who determines what is "fair"?? You? Ms. Warren? How much should you be able to steal from others?
      .
And finally, what gave you, or Ms. Warren the right to determine how much of their own hard-earned cash fellow citizens can keep?

Funny to see the vacuous lefty charges. Wealthy people ALREADY pay a higher rate of personal income tax.

Why do Marxists like Warren hate successful people? Because they have no need of the nanny state that keeps Democrats in power, and a large portion of the population in perpetual serfdom.
      • _-_- 8 mths ago
"large portion of the population in perpetual serfdom."
You really need to stop digesting everything Limbaugh or Beck says without questioning it. Do you honestly believe that a large portion of the population is on welfare and that this is a goal of Democrats? If it were George Bush would be their greatest ally. He cratered the economy on his way out of office. Remember 2008 and 2009? I remember going into the local supermarket and everything was either on sale or the shelves were empty. The store workers had no idea if they were going to close the store or were just short on inventory.
That was BEFORE Obama was sworn in.
Again this return to rhetoric about marxism and socialism shows that the GOP have no new ideas. Even their name calling is from an earlier era. When there were these things called socialists. I don't know if you read the news Mr Stunt but the Berlin wall fell decades ago. Both Russia and China have embraced free market capitalism. Cuba and Korea are the sole holdouts. You may as well be accusing the democrats of being agents of the ottoman empire. You make that little sense.
      • CunningStuntman 8 mths ago
Well, if you missed recent news, we have a record amount of people on federal aid, food stamps, etc. If that doesn't show that an increasing # of people are stuck on the gubbermint teat, I don't know what does.

And the fact that socialism has failed on a state level at every turn doesn't bely the fact that there are those still clinging to its tenets in the DNC. What are Warren's comments, if they aren't "socialist"??

Your weak ad hominem regarding "Limbaugh or Beck", the continual racism charge, etc, are only the act of a desparate party on the wrong side of the last 2 election cycles.

I can see your bumper stickers now: "Blame Booosh, 2012!"
    • SouthernYankee1239  •  7 mths ago
Wow, that Republican that said he couldn't afford to live off $400,000 is a good example of what our problem is in America. How would he like to try to live off less than $600 a month? This fool is a prime example of greed in America.

I don't see anything wrong with everyone paying the same tax rate, but loopholes to hide money is not fair in any case. Not everyone can have loopholes because some loopholes are only for BIG businesses like GE. They hide money to not pay taxes.
    • strwy2heaven64  •  8 mths ago
Common sense Where are the jobs? Manufacturing went overseas. We can sell everything made in China and try to make a good profit. Unless its a KIA you are getting 8 to 10 an hour to work at Walmart. The country is losing good jobs that pay a decent wage and expecting people to work for minimum wage. The only jobs that pay good are government jobs and those are being attacked to shrink government. Millionaires like Beck think we should not get mail each day. 85 million a year must be nice to jabber into a mic all day.
    • organizizer  •  8 mths ago
"..most people in the United States use social programs "

try *ALL* people in the United States use social programs.

everyone uses roads and water systems, has emergency services. government action keeps food and fuel prices low (yep. lowest fuel prices in the developed world, for decades). et cetera.
    • Mark  •  8 mths ago
If a billionaire pays the same tax rate as a working stiff that's "class warfare" according to the Republicans. If he pays a rate that is 10% less, that's good economics. What this argument really is , is a crock. If the deficit is the BIG MONSTER that is going to eat us, then cut back government spending(read no more Republican Imperial fantasy wars for oil) AND raise revenues.
    • Ron G  •  8 mths ago
Free market economics requires everyone to compete against everyone else for us all to receive the benefit of the invisible hand. Monopolism is the enemy. It removes a group from that competition. They get all the benfits of the free market without having to pay the costs of competition.

In 1988 the Republicans changed their position on monopolism. After having been against it for eight decades (jncluding trust-busters like TR and Reagan). Now the Republicans do everything they can to create monopolies/cartels. (For example - Reagan busted-up AT&T; Bush the Second put it back together).

Monopolism is warfare against the free-market. When one class of a society is encouraged to form monopolies and the other groups are forbidden, that is, by definition, class warfare.

All the middle and lower classes are doing now is fighting a class battle started by the wealthy almost 25 years ago. We've got a little catching up to do.

We say we are losing jobs to China, I say we are re-inventing Jobs in America! Being fed up with those that feel they are carrying America on their backs all by themselves. They call us "Middle Class and Poor Americans" lazy welfare recipents, turds, monkeys, whom say we should die if we do not chose to have Healthcare.
We "Middle Class and Poor" Americans know that we must Stand Together against a trifling few. We Are America, not the I, Me, My and Mine non patriotic Americans. True Americans don't dessert their country nor their fellowman. True Americans Fights and Accomplish our Goals when We Stand Together, We Are Invincible! We must Actively Protest and Assist Those that's putting forth the Effort on our Behalf. We must reward ourselves and those that's standing, shouting and singing on the Behalf Of All Americans. US of All!

After reading the comments from those here who I have determined were born in the last 30 years, I've surmised our education system is teaching today's youth to view life top-down. My generation, the boomers, was taught to view life bottom-up. However, a few forgot. And passed that naivete to their children.
