Ellen Burstyn to star in Broadway 'Picnic' revival

NEW YORK (AP) — It will be cold, but Ellen Burstyn and Elizabeth Marvel are still planning a picnic on Broadway this winter.

The Roundabout Theatre Company announced Thursday that the duo will star in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Picnic" by William Inge.

The rest of the cast includes Reed Birney, Maggie Grace, Sebastian Stan and Mare Winningham. Sam Gold directs.

"Picnic," which premiered on Broadway in 1953, will begin previews on Dec. 14 and open officially on Jan. 13 at the American Airlines Theatre. It tells the story of an attractive drifter who galvanizes a Kansas community.

Burstyn, who currently stars in "The Atmosphere of Memory" at the Bank Street Theater, has won an Academy Award, an Emmy and a Tony. Marvel's latest films include "Bourne Legacy" and "Lincoln."
