Harry Potter's Emma Watson debuted her new pixie cut on her Facebook page, by posting a status update about having her hair cut short a few days ago. In addition to posting a status update sharing the good news, she shared a photo of her and her new pixie haircut with fans on her Facebook wall. And just in case you missed the news on her Facebook wall, she tweeted it out to her 113,000+ followers as well.
Celebrities generate buzz by getting a pixie haircut
Perhaps Emma Watson's pixie haircut was borne out of a distaste for long hair? Now that Harry Potter movies are complete, she is free to cut her hair as she pleases. Love it or hate it, pixie cuts are now a popular choice among celebrities.
There have been other celebrities who have garnered a great deal of attention by cutting their hair in a pixie cut. Katie Holmes comes to mind first, effectively starting a huge trend toward the short, cropped hair.
Nearly two years ago, back in August 2008, Katie Holmes made headlines with her new pixie do. Fox News even felt the news of her pixie cut was newsworthy, noting that trendsetter Katie Holmes had started a bob frenzy the year before when she had her long locks cut into a short bob.
Earlier this summer, Cate Blanchett debuted her own pixie haircut back in June at the 2010 Tony Awards. Blanchett is perhaps most well-known for her role as Galadriel in all three Lord of the Rings movies, released several years ago, and was most recently seen in Robin Hood, released in mid-May.
In fact, several celebrities have ditched their long locks this year in favor of the shorter and summer-friendly pixie cut, including Hayden Panattierre from Heroes, Janet Jackson, and Michelle Williams.
With the media frenzy around any celeb who gets a pixie cut, it leads me to wonder if a star needs a little bit of publicity, should they just go get a pixie cut?
