These Employers Encourage Marijuana ‘Smoking’ Breaks
A few Denver companies not only allow but actually encourage their employees to break for marijuana, CNN Money reports.
The companies are in the cannabis industry but their founders say they encourage pot consumption on breaks because it helps employees’ productivity and creativity.
Employees of Flowhub, which provides “seed-to-sale software” for the cannabis industry, are allowed to bring in cannabis-laced edibles and beverages. (Colorado voters legalized marijuana for adult recreational use in November 2012, but no smoking of any kind is allowed indoors.)
Flowhub co-founder and CEO Kyle Sherman explains to CNN:
“If it helps our employees get work done, then we don’t care if they consume at work. …
“It definitely surfaces new ideas and a fresh take on things.”
High There! — a company behind a social media platform for marijuana users — also allows pot consumption at work, usually later in the day or during brainstorming sessions.
High There! co-founder Darren Roberts tells CNN that marijuana is part of the company’s culture and brings other benefits:
“It has led us to breakthrough moments for our business. So yes, it’s been very effective for us.”
