End of Nike cafeteria contract cuts 174 Ore. jobs

Cafeteria operator says it will cut 174 Oregon jobs when Nike contract expires

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) -- An office cafeteria operator has notified Oregon officials that it will cut 174 jobs in April when its contract with Nike Inc. expires.

Kathy Nicholl of Guckenheimer Enterprises Inc. says her company has managed cafes and catering at Nike's Portland-area headquarters since 1990.

Still, she tells The Oregonian that Nike's new contractor will likely hire 80 percent to 90 percent of Guckenheimer's employees to continue working at the Nike campus. Nicholl says Guckenheimer will try to help other employees find work at its other area cafeterias.
