LE CLAIRE, Iowa -- Just when we thought we were in for clear skies and sunshine with the coming of spring time, we were hit with days of endless raindrops. I live in Le Claire, but I work in Davenport, which has been directly affected by the recent flood.
It has rained for 10 days since April 8. One of those rainy mornings on my way to work, due to the inclement weather, the road was closed causing me to find an alternate route to work. I decided to park in the upper level of a parking garage just to be safe. It's a good thing I did because the downtown area was flooded by the time that I left work and even more downtown roads were closed. Businesses began to build sand bags around the perimeters of their establishment to protect their buildings from as much flood damage as possible.
All together we received about seven inches of rain which proved to be enough to cause the Mississippi River to spill over into the roads. A couple of days later and the flood has not yet gone down. In fact, it rained again today and an eight-day flood warning has been issued for Scott County.
